Two-fer Today *NON-RAW alert* :)

WOW, a day with TWO posts. Unreal.

But I had food porn to share....

Bagels...

Round (mostly) brown, chewy.....

Doughy......

They are made with wheat, white, and flax flour.....and topped with poppy seeds, salt, sunflower seeds, garlic, and minced onion. Oh, and more flax seeds.
I am looking forward to seeing if my family likes them, since they are definitely not on my raw foods plan!!

Oh these were so good!! You could definitely just use all wheat flour...we used a mix according to the recipe found here:

Let me know if you make them - how they turn out. I don't think my yeast did all that it was supposed to do -- these weren't quite right...and my yeast never got foamy in that first step....the dough only rose a tiny bit. They are still good, just don't taste or feel quite 'done' -- ya know?

they look pretty good! mine didn't rise much either, but i didn't end up having much of a problem. Did you use white bread and wheat bread flours? That's the only thing I could think of that might account for the chewy-ness. Or perhaps you might need to boil/bake them a tad longer next time. Also: warm water is "wrist temperature" . . . I hope this helps. They look pretty darn good!

Hi Ashley!! Thanks for commenting - Mine were a little hmmm, denser than a normal bagel...not quite wet -- but bordering on it. They didn't rise AT ALL once formed....I think it may have been a yeast issue since the yeast water never foamed. (at all) And I made TWO batches of yeast water hoping it would foam. lol I will definitely try again. I used all the flours but can't gaurantee the wheat was bread flour - it was in an unmarked ziploc bag. I'll update you when I try again - probably in a couple of weeks.

THANKS for helping!
Janice
